Waypoints

The Morley Water Tower was built to store water pumped from a nearby brook. The water was then used at the nearby Morley Manor House , Smithy Farm and Morley Hayes Farm.

The tower is quite inconspicuous when viewed from a distance, but when viewed from the field it sits in, it has a much larger presence.

The tower to the right is located in the Derbyshire Fire and Rescue Service headquarters. The towers behind and to the left are the radio transmitters on Alport Heights.

Peak Tor

Statistically, Peak Tor isn’t impressive. With an elevation of approx. 190m above sea level and an elevation gain of 85m from the bottom of the Wye valley, it doesn’t sound exciting.
However, if you travel between Rowsley and Bakewell you can’t help but notice it. Peak Tor has a distinctive shape and a cluster of Beach trees sit on top of it. To me it is the “round hill with trees on top” . It sits where the River Wye joins the Derwent and appears to guard this location.
